Cactacae

This piece is a colored sketch of one of the cactacae people in the books by Chine Mieville. It turned out more "capcom-ish" than I was planning...

Some times you need to just call something done. this was a piece I could have noodled forever. But here it is. Moving on....

I might post this as a color piece at some point. The reason I'm graying it out and posting it is I'm playing Fable 2 right now and ignoring art. So to justify my Fable 2 time, I'm posting something.

Cityscape

This is a piece inspired by the city setting in the book 'Perdido Street Station' by China Mieville. Two enviros in a row! Whoohoo!

Enviroment

This started as a sketch and I decided to color it. I'll probably be all sneaky and work on it more and update it without telling anyone. I can. I have that power.

Sapperstein

I did this trying a new process- I draw things out traditionally and then ink them in the computer. Seems to be yielding some good results. For the record, I imagine him to sound like Tom Waits. If you don't know who that is...go find out :)

Weekly Challenge 3

Done for Cloud 9 forums. The challenge was to do a piece using only three colors. You could still use tonal variations as long as it was the three colors.

Weekly challenge...again

I posted this one a while back and then took it down because I didn't want one of those adult content warning thingies. I decided to throw caution to the wind and repost(that and I don't think this is racy enough for a warning anyway). This was for the weekly challenge on the Cloud 9 forums, the title "girls kissing girls". *ahem*

Sometimes it's a giant killer bear man...

Other times it's a mom hangin out with her kid. This one was a lot of fun and off the beaten path for me. You may notice the mom in the chair from the peeps piece down the page.

New drawings...

I recently went to the San Diego Comic Con and and had the honor of meeting Dave McKean (well, more like stood in his presence and tried to remember my own name). Mr. McKean was kind enough to do a little drawing inside the book of his sketches I bought, gratis. I did a few drawings of my own, inspired by the man himself. Thanks Dave!

NEW HERBALISER ALBUM!!!!

This is the first non-art post, something which I try to avoid (it is an *art* blog after all:)). So why have I thrown convention to the wind? Because the Herbaliser, one of my favorite acts EVAR, has released a new album, titled "Same As It Never Was". The amazon link is here or you can download it at www.bleep.com. This one's got crazy weird color and a lot of slop...but I really like it for some reason. I think I just let go on this one and it worked out this time :)

Messin' with a new style a little more...

This is a wip in a new style I've been messing with. With Dominance War 3 taking up a lot of my time, it's going to be a while until I can finish this. More updates to come!

Witch of the weeds and young cultists...

These are two pieces done for White Wolf Games. The top one was called "witch of the weeds" and the bottom one was of some crazy-kooky kids performing black magic in a junkyard. I was particularly happy with how the roses turned out in the witch of weeds one.

Dominance War III

Refined the armor a bit and took my first stab at designing the artifact. The story is coming together but I want to wait until I have all the details worked out before I post.

Just messing with a new style. Apologies for the huge size of the file but it loses a lot if I reduce it too much. Plus I'm sure everyone out there has fancy schmancy cable modems and can handle it.

This was a full page illustration done for White Wolf Games. I forgot where it was and thanks to Mongsub Song, I found it. I might make a color piece out of this...

Paul Richards and I decided to do a color exercise and create a piece by color picking off an established painting. I got to choose this time so I chose this piece by Rick Berry. I did this one pretty quick and it started out as the chick from the movie Immortal (based on the Nikopol Trilogy by Enki Bilal) but looked more like Morpheus from Sandman. So, it's Morpheus.

He's so saaaad.....

Not intentionally mopey, just sorta came out like that. All together: awwwwww........

Everybody was.....

I started reading Shaman Warrior and did this after reading a few issues. The artist Park Joong-Ki does incredible action shots with a lot of life and motion, which I felt inspired to copy here. That, and I felt like drawing an afro.

Minotaur

This was the result of an exercise Paul Richards (fellow drawerer and friend) would do. Basically, you do a scribble on a psd and give it to the other person and they develop something out of it. I remember seeing a minotaur in the movie Time Bandits as a kid and have yet to see a cooler take on it. I think this is probably more than a little influenced by that :)

Jumping weird superhero....

This is one of the many files sitting on my laptop that will never see publication (because it's just me messing around) and will probably be noodled forever by me. But thanks to the magic of blogging, I now have a venue in which sketches and unfinished work can be shown. Yaaaaay....

Cracks in the ice...

Another inuit piece. These creatures live in the cracks in the ice and steal children. Bleak, I know :(

This is another done for Inhabit. This particular fellow's name translates to "those with no calf muscles". The caption for this piece is "Yeeeeees....so EEEEEEVIIIIL! So deliciously eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeviilllllle! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

Also done for Inhabit Media. I wanted to include something that doesn't look quite so threatening as the others. So here are some nice dwarves that live in rocks.

This one was done for Inhabit Media. The project is set up to have modern illustrators interpret inuit stories. It was a pretty cool project and the art director (Neil Christopher) was great to work with.
